SKYDISPLAY by MYGOFLIGHT receives FAA STC certification for the very first head-up display for general aviation

June 22, 2021- Denver, Colorado USA- SKYDISPLAY ™, a division of MYGOFLIGHT, today announced that it has received FAA STC certification for its SKYDISPLAY HUD system. SKYDISPLAY aligns critical flight information with the pilot’s external view and provides head-up guidance indications based on information contained in the aircraft’s main flight instruments.

With the next generation of display technologies, a small footprint has been achieved, allowing a HUD to fit into many cockpits that were previously not an option, with significantly lower weight, size, and cost. SKYDISPLAY increases the skills of all pilots in all conditions and phases of flight, taking into account the reduction in pilot workload and the significant improvement in situational awareness. Simply put, HUDS makes flying safer. Critical flight information from the aircraft‘s digital cockpit is displayed head-up. Innovation and new technologies have enabled SKYDISPLAY to reduce the cost of traditional HUDs by up to 10 times.

The reports from the pilots have been consistent, the SKYDISPLAY system is top notch. “Just as useful as HUDs on the Falcons or Gulfstreams”, Tom Horne, AOPA Turbine “A HUD for the rest of us”, Matt Thurber, editor, AIN “Intuitive. Increases the proficiency of all pilots, ”Ric Peri, Aircraft Electronics Association A new option for the SKYDISPLAY HUD system is the addition of an Enhanced Vision System (EVS) capability. HUD EVS systems make it easier for pilots to fly in weather conditions, turn night into day, and help “see” through smoke and light fog while keeping their eyes out.

Special ops operators find the HUD EVS system invaluable, such as in firefighting missions, for identifying and hitting hot spots with much greater accuracy. This is also essential in pest control, search and rescue and agricultural spraying operations when it is necessary to be able to fly safely at ground level. “The aerial observer could not find the hot spots. With SKYDISPLAY HUD EVS I was able to find and direct the team to them. 11 targets, all direct hits, ”Fire Boss pilot The EVS HUD system was developed with assistance from Astronics, makers of the MAX-VIZ thermal imaging systems.

The system was installed by Aero Brigham of Decatur, Texas, on racks designed by AeroBrigham for the HUD and EVS, in four Air Tractor AT802F Fire Boss aircraft owned and operated by a contracted firefighting fleet. These planes operate under Part 23 rules for piston, turboprop, and light jet aircraft and include Cirrus, Cessna, Beechcraft, Phenom, TBM, Piper, Air Tractor / Fire Boss, and more. The avionics built into these aircraft include cockpits from Aspen Avionics, Garmin and Honeywell with further integrations planned for the future. Development of the SKYDISPLAY HUD system installation was carried out with support from Duncan Aviation of Denver, Colorado. The SKYDISPLAY HUD system has two main components, a HUD projector and an AID (aircraft interface device) which is used to read the ARINC 429 and serial data buses on these aircraft.

SKYDISPLAY AID, available separately, is a modular, ruggedized off-the-shelf computing system (COTS) with Mini PCIe card slots to support the integration of additional I / O modules with little or no NRE. SKYDISPLAY HUD – Projection Unit and Aircraft Interface Device (AID) The SKYDISPLAY AID has been optimally designed for size, weight and power sensitive mobile, airborne, land, manned / unmanned applications (SWaP ). DO-160 certification validated environmental, electrical and EMI compliance. Available at a significantly lower unit cost than currently available for computers meeting DO-160 requirements.
