They say once you travel first class you can never go back by coach. There is nothing quite like rolling past the first-class curtain to cover yourself in plush and, in some cases, flat-lying seats, while enjoying chef-prepared meals and sipping champagne.

I personally know the saying is true. But sadly, I have made the long walk back to the economy several times after experiencing the forgiving front of the plane.

This is because for most travelers, Business Class or First Class is often prohibitively expensive and a rarity retained for special occasions or occasional upgrades.

However, Scott’s Cheap Flights, a newsletter and website for finding the best flight deals, offers an Elite level specifically for premium economy, cheap, business class and first class flights. It’s not free like their basic newsletter, but if you like to stretch in style, it’s worth checking out.

I tried an Elite membership, compiled for review, and for just under $ 17 a month I think it’s one of the best ways to find great deals on upgraded cabins. Here’s how it works, how it compares to the free service, and some of the best deals I’ve spotted.

What is Scott’s Cheap Flights?

Scott’s Cheap Flights is a newsletter and website that shares amazing flight deals, in some cases even 90% off the price of a typical flight.

They have a team of researchers who religiously research flights and if you opt for email subscriptions you will be alerted when airlines have sales or pricing errors.

Basic membership is free, but for personalized and exclusive offers you will need to upgrade to Premium, while Elite (which includes Premium) is exclusively reserved for premium flight offers in Economy, Business and First Class. Here’s a full breakdown of how it works.

What is Scott’s Cheap Flights Elite?

While a Standard subscription shares limited offers, and Premium alerts you to many more offers on international and domestic economy flights, wrong fares and some of the most popular destinations, Elite specifically focuses on premium class flights. economical, business and first class.

However, since it also includes a Premium membership, you’ll get the best of both worlds, in other words, all the best deals with no limitations.

Offers arrive daily in your inbox or can be found on the website. Online, you will see offers that are only available to Premium or Elite members.

To find the best cheap flights for you, you will need to “track” the airports you usually depart from. Free members can select up to five airports, premium members can track up to 10, and Elite members have unlimited choices.

How much does an Elite subscription cost?

Elite costs $ 199 per year, which is significantly more than Scott’s Cheap Flights Premium service which costs $ 49 for an annual subscription. Regular memberships are free.

But if you travel often, like to grab a bargain, and specifically want to travel in upgraded cabins, it costs just under $ 17 a month, which is pretty cheap.

You can also try it for free for 14 days if you decide it’s not for you.

How do I sign up for Scott’s Cheap Flights Elite Membership?

Signing up for a Scott’s Cheap Flights Elite account is simple:

  1. First, create an account by going to their home page where you will need to submit your name, email address, and create a password. You’ll also respond to prompts to make sure you see the best deals.
  2. For Elite, you will then be prompted to enter your credit card information.

That’s it.

Is Elite better than Premium or Free?

It depends on how often you travel or plan to jump on deals, and how important the elevated cabins are to you.

However, to see how many additional offers an Elite member receives (which, again, includes Premium), I also signed up for a free account on another email to track how much I received for each level. Over a five-week period, here’s how they stacked up:

Free service:

  • 30 email offers for domestic and international flights in economy class
  • 16 emails with destination-related content, travel tips and discount offers on paid memberships

Premium service:

  • 121 email offers for domestic and international flights in economy class
  • 16 emails with destination-related content, travel tips and discount offers on paid memberships

Elite Service:

  • 9 email offers for domestic and international flights in premium economy class
  • 26 email offers for domestic and international business flights and first class flights
  • 126 email offers for domestic and international flights in economy class
  • 16 emails with destination-related content, travel tips and discount offers on paid memberships

So looking at the offers in particular, since all members receive similar promotional emails, being a Premium member has earned a lot more offers than a basic membership.

Elite included all the same Premium emails, with the addition of upgraded cabin offers, which were mostly business class versus any other.

Although I did not receive as many premium or business class offers as I did for economy flights through Premium, the number of premium / business / first class sales totaled about the same as all e- mails I received in their entirety as a free member, which is a pretty good demonstration.

What are the best offers Elite members receive?

While I have received many great offers as an Elite member, these have offered some of the biggest savings to popular destinations. Note that these have been adapted for my residence on the east coast:

  • New York to Quito, Ecuador in premium economy class: $ 505
  • New York to Barcelona, Spain in premium economy class: $ 778
  • Boston to Copenhagen, Denmark in premium economy class, $ 990
  • New York to Bangkok, Thailand in premium economy class, $ 1,186
  • New York to Nassau, Bahamas in Business Class, $ 623
  • New York to Quito, Ecuador in business class: $ 755
  • Boston to Seattle in Business Class, $ 997
  • Boston to Rome, Italy in business class, $ 1,568
  • Hartford to Madrid, Spain in business class, $ 2,210
  • New York, in Cape Town, South Africa, $ 2,704

The bottom line

Most major trips require a flight, which can be a long and uncomfortable trip. Flying in Business Class or First Class is an indulgence that removes many pain points, but is also expensive and discounts are hard to come by.

However, Scott’s Cheap Flights Elite service focuses specifically on them, offering significant savings.

If you travel often and are willing to pay more for Premium Economy, Business Class, and First Class, Scott’s Cheap Flights Elite service is one of the best ways to find cheap airline tickets in these cabins. And at around $ 17 a month for a year, that price is cheaper than buying dinner.

Although I did not purchase a plane ticket during my testing period (I have a baby and we are trying to limit travel with her during the pandemic), I would definitely sign up for Elite if I flew to pre-pandemic levels, or if I knew I would be traveling long haul routes.

However, if you don’t fly a lot or are perfectly comfortable on a coach, you’d better try Premium, which still has some great deals for around $ 4 per month. Or start with the free version and upgrade if you like what you see.
