Havoc broke out at Sydney Airport this morning as a Qantas plane was forced to temporarily halt its flight due to the air traffic controller sounding an engine fire alarm, leaving passengers terrified . The QF91 plane, which was due to take off from Sydney Airport at 7.40am and fly to Noumea, New Caledonia, was delayed and the passengers were put on another plane.
Passengers led to security amid the chaos
The flight was flying normally, but was abruptly stopped when the pilot issued a “pan-pan” alert, implying that there is a low risk of danger present that does not immediately pose a risk to life . In total, more than 100 passengers were escorted off the flight with the help of rescue teams and emergency services and taken to the terminal. The aircraft was then moved to the terminal and escorted back to the terminal. A Qantas Airlines spokesperson issued a statement on the shocking cases, reassuring the general public that neither passengers nor staff were harmed.
“The pilots followed the procedure and cut the engine as a precaution after being alerted by the control tower during the taxi. “There were no warning lights in the cockpit and no signs of fire when the engine was shut down.” Engineers inspected the aircraft and cleared it for return to service. The passengers were rebooked on another flight this morning.
A recurrent issue
Unfortunately, the airline has recently faced many complications that have disappointed customers and caused major problems for them as a business. Last week, on Sunday, a computer glitch was reported which affected “up to a dozen domestic flights” and infuriated those waiting. Many shared their anger at the situation publicly on Twitter, pointing out how the delays had ruined their trips. Although this happened last week, the airline is still suffering the consequences as Twitter users continue to actively use the platform to share their anger over the situation. A disgruntled passenger tweeted his thoughts on the airline today.
“Also, a huge ‘cry’ to @. Another flight, and yet another delay. At least it’s consistent. Of course, I would much rather wait for the delay on the tarmac than in the living room .”
Although Qantas has recently faced multiple issues which they have tried to overcome, it is abundantly clear that many travelers did not feel supported and expected much more from the airline. After yet another incident affecting the airline, it is clear that Qantas will need to reassure customers that it provides a trustworthy service.
