Lincoln Aviator Shinola Concept first review: an SUV to watch

Lincoln and Shinola Collaborate on Concept Vehicle Based on Aviator SUV, and Luxury Car Maker Plans to Unveil Finished Product at 2021 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Lincoln Aviator Shinola Concept is not exactly the kind of vehicle we generally expect to have “concept” status. That’s because the Aviator Shinola isn’t a machine of the future with hand-formed body panels. On the contrary, it is simply a production Aviator with a few touches inspired by the brand Shinola, leader of Detroit.

The Aviator Shinola Concept lives up to its bill in that it is a unique vehicle foreshadowing a potential future model between Lincoln and the Detroit-based luxury goods maker, best known for its watches. Naturally, Shinola’s timepieces had a key influence on this Aviator concept, which features a white exterior color inspired by the color featured on the faces of some Shinola watches. The midsize luxury SUV’s rose gold exterior trim, on the other hand, is reminiscent of the copper-plated piece Shinola attaches to the saddle of his Runwell bike.

Inside, rich brown leather covers the Aviator Shinola’s door trim, dashboard and seats. In the latter’s case, Lincoln complements dark skin tones with white suede inserts and chic woven textiles. Additional interior decoration is provided by a woven wire mesh, which Lincoln says is a nod to Shinola’s watch straps. However, it lacks an analog clock that mimics the design and font of Shinola’s watch faces. A real missed opportunity if you ask us.

Although Lincoln calls the Aviator Shinola a concept, surely the brand plans to assess the public reaction of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to this special SUV. If things go well, then we bet it’s only a matter of time until Lincoln decides to put the Detroit-style, high-end Aviator Shinola into production.
