GREAT FALLS, Mt. – The sound of fighter jets is back in Electric City as the Montana Air National Guard and Malmstrom Air Force Base host the 2022 Montana Open House Military Flight over the falls.
They held a military appreciation day as well as a full rehearsal on Friday July 22 before opening the doors to the public on Saturday July 23.
The rehearsal was a success and now they are ready for the weekend.
“Humans built these planes and these things are capable of so many things that you can imagine. And watching these things happen in the air, especially at such high altitudes and on a nice day, high winds, doing these stunts aerials, it’s an amazing thing to watch,” said Ryan Garcia, F18 demonstration pilot with the US Navy Rhino Demonstration Team.
There’s something for everyone at the air show, including aerial displays, pyrotechnics and aircraft displays.
Garcia says it was seeing an air show as a kid that made him want to do what he does in the air show, fly an F18.
“All I could think of was I wanted to do this. And I didn’t even go to the air show the first time looking at an F-18. I was driving down the road just looking at the sky, looking and going and I was like, I don’t want to do anything but that,” Garcia said.
Parking for the air show begins at 8:00 a.m., gates open at 9:00 a.m. and you can see the Rhino Demo Team, Thunderbirds and others take to the skies throughout the afternoon.
“Come see some of these awesome planes and see what we’re up to in the real world,” Garcia said.
The airshow is July 23-24 at the 120th Air Lift Wing.
