Chris Evans is going to tap dance to play Gene Kelly

The deadline reports that Chris Evans is set to play music legend Gene Kelly, just as controversy has sparked controversy over casting Tom Holland as Fred Astaire. The story is based on an original idea by Evans himself, about a 12-year-old boy who worked on the MGM Lot in 1952 and began to form an imaginary friendship with legendary movie star Gene Kelly while working on his next film.

Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd adaptation screenwriter John Logan will write the screenplay. He’s been nominated three times at the Oscars – for Hugo and The Aviator by Martin Scorsese, as well as Gladiator by Ridley Scott. Evans Knives Out collaborators Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman will produce the film, alongside Evans.

Chris Evans is of course best known for playing Captain America in the MCU, but he was perhaps surprisingly a high school musical theater nerd and originally wanted to make it to Broadway before his career took off in one direction. different. He’s long been attached to the role of Orin in a new take on The Little Shop of Horrors, but it’s unclear if that will ever happen.

This isn’t the first time Evans has been involved behind the scenes of a project. He made his directorial debut in 2014 with the romantic film Before We Go, in which he played a trumpeter.

Evans dabbled in singing and dancing in many of his other movie roles. He appeared in a full-scale song and dance number in Not a Teen Movie in 2001, played a struggling rock band member in What’s My Number in 2011, and even briefly played tap dancing at the end. of Playing it Cool in 2014.

Ironically, Evans did not reprise his role as Steve Rogers in Rogers: The Musical, which appears on the recent MCU TV show Hawkeye.
