Until now, every 737 Max aircraft has had a counterpart from the previous generation. The Boeing 737 Max 8 has the 737-800, the 737 Max 9 has the 737-900 and the 737 Max 7 has the 737-700.

But the Max 10 is in a league of its own because there is no Next Generation equivalent. Its size is closer to the Boeing 757-200 with a length difference of just 10 feet and four inches.

In terms of length, Boeing’s latest jet measures 143 feet and eight inches, enough to accommodate up to 204 passengers in a two-class configuration and 230 in a single-class configuration. Its size comes with compromises, however, especially in terms of range.

The Max 10 can travel up to 3,300 nautical miles when equipped with an auxiliary fuel tank, creating city pairs such as New York-Dublin, Ireland; London, United Kingdom-Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong-Perth, Australia feasible under the right conditions.

The engines of the Max 10 are also identical to those of its predecessors. A pair of CFM International LEAP-1B engines is fitted to the entire 737 Max family.

The engines offer 28,000 pounds of thrust each and help increase the aircraft’s fuel efficiency over older 737 models.

A pair of “advanced technology” fins on each wing, which is standard on all Max aircraft, also contributes to the aircraft’s fuel efficiency.

The Max 10’s range would allow United to fly the plane from any of its domestic routes and even fly to Western European cities from its hubs in Newark and Washington, DC.

Most countries around the world have cleared the Max for flight and more than 130,000 flight hours have been flown by the family of planes since November, the Seattle Times reported.
